Friday is deadline to register for next On Teaching box lunch What do we mean when we ask students, as part of their general education program, to “develop familiarity with cultures other than their own?” How do we assess this ability? These questions will be the focus of the next On Teaching Faculty Box Lunch discussion scheduled for 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the Prairie Room, Memorial Union. In this session, we’ll hear from a group of faculty led by Assistant Provost Joan Hawthorne, who worked on a pilot project to define and assess this goal last year. They’ll tell us about the results they got, and the difficulties they encountered along the way. They also hope to solicit feedback from the audience on how such a requirement should be defined and assessed in the future. Handouts will be provided.
