Retirement reception will honor Alan Schoenack
The Aerospace Flight Operations welcome all to attend a retirement reception in honor of Alan Schoenack, helicopter instructor. The reception will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Flight Operations Administration, 5th floor.
Alan has been a helicopter flight instructor for the UND John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences since 1995. He instructs in both the Bell 206B and the Schweizer 300C. He has assisted in safety and standardization for all helicopter training programs and courses. He has also instructed both the private and commercial courses on campus.
Alan began flying in 1965, with his first solo in a Super Cub on snow skies in Warren, Minn. After graduating from UND with a bachelors degree in Business and Public Administration, and as a 2nd Lieutenant from ROTC, he entered the U.S. Army. Following completion of Army Flight Training, he served as a UH-1 helicopter pilot in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Alan retired from the National Guard in 2006 with over 37 years in the Army and Army aviation. He has accumulated over 8,000 hours in his flying careers.
Prior to joining the UND, Alan worked as a sales representative for Mobil Oil, Nestle Beverage, and for a short time, as a realtor. Alan lives in Moorhead with Lana, his wife of 40 years. Their three sons and four grandchildren all live in Fargo/Moorhead. His passions are Lana, (his high school sweetheart), flying, playing golf and being with his grandchildren.
His experience and always helpful personality will be greatly missed. Please join us in wishing him well in his retirement.
