Remembering Barbara J. Westensee


Barbara J. Westensee,administrative secretary in chemical engineering, died Nov. 20 at Altru Hospital. She was 60.

Westensee, the daughter of Ervin and Lydia Anderson, was born April 28, 1948 in Lakota, N.D. She graduated from Lakota High School in 1966 and married Wayne Westensee in 1967. They raised their daughters, Carol and Cathy, in Grand Forks.

She moved to Bull Head City, Ariz., in 1988 and later lived in Las Vegas, Nev., and Lonog Beach, Calif., before moving back to North Dakota in 2000. She worked at the UND Housing Office and most recently the chemical engineering department.

She enjoyed hunting for a bargain at rummage sales, going out with her friends and spending time with her family. She was devoted to her four-legged children; therefore her family will make donations in her name to her two favorite animal care facilities.

Westensee is survived by her parents, Ervin and Lydia Anderson, Lakota, N.D.; her daughters, Carol (Vince) Weible, Lompoc, Calif.; Cathy Westensee (Rodney Fisk), Michigan, N.D.; her brothers, Duane (Chloe) Anderson, Sheridan, Wyo.; Dennis (Patricia) Anderson, Naperville, Ill.; and Larry (Tami) Anderson, Lakota, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Anderson.

Funeral services were held Nov. 22 in Michigan, N.D.
