Remembering Gary Steven Naastad


It is with regret that we announce the death of Gary Steven Naastad, building services technician, who passed away Nov. 19 at Altru. He was 58.

Steve, as he was known to his family, was born to Ronald and Betty Lou (Onstad) Naastad on Oct. 5, 1950, in Grand Forks. He attended school there until 1966 when he moved to Wales, N.D. He graduated from Langdon High School in 1970.

He returned to Grand Forks in 1970, where he worked for Pillsbury for 19 years until the plant closed in 1989. He also worked for RDO Foods. He joined the University in February 2002 as a building services technician, and worked in the Education Building, Upson II, and, most recently, Starcher Hall.

He loved cooking, gardening, working on cars, and being a dad. He married Susanne Solarski December 28, 1984.

He is survived by his wife Susie; sons Aaron Loken, East Grand Forks, Randy Naastad, Grand Forks, and daughter Amy Naastad, Grand Forks; two grandchildren; brother Jerry Naastad, Grand Forks; sisters Ginni (Larry) Beaton, Grand Forks, Beth (Mike) Toay, Grand Forks, Jodi (Eric) Wolven, McKinleyville, Calif.; brother-in-law Dave Solarski, East Grand Forks; sister-in-law Cindy Solarski, Lorton, Va.; sister-in-law Diane Solarski, East Grand Forks; sister-in-law Kathy (Jerry) Qualley, East Grand Forks; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

MEMORIAL SERVICES: 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Augustana Lutheran Church, 520 University Ave., Grand Forks.

VISITATION: One hour prior to the memorial service at the church.
