Center of Excellence proposal synopsis due May 9; note additional date

Dear All,

Previous notices regarding Center of Excellence proposals have had a due date of June 9. However, a new requirement has been added by the North Dakota University System to submit a synopsis of the proposal to the chancellor 30 days prior to the due date. Therefore, proposal synopsis are due May 9. See http://www.ndus.nodak.edu/policies/sbhe-policies/policy.asp?ref=2540&printable=1.

So, for this round of competition, a synopsis of the proposal is due May 9, with the full proposal due June 9. As soon as possible, please notify the vice president for research office of your intent to submit proposals, and that office will coordinate the submission of the synopsis to the chancellor by May 9, and the proposal to the Department of Commerce by June 9.

I have asked Gary Johnson to coordinate and track all submissions from UND. Please advise the Office of the Vice President for Research, garyejohnson@mail.und.eduas soon as possible if you intend to submit a proposal in response to the current announcement. This will let us gauge the number of proposals expected from the UND campus. As with the previous round, UND will be limited to a maximum of five proposals.

The Centers of Excellence Application for the 2008 round of Center approvals was released by the Department of Commerce. The application form is available on the UND Research Web site at http://www.und.edu/dept/research/. Please note that the form will open as a Word document file.

Please note that "The approval and recommendation by the President of the University is required to ensure that the funding request is consistent with the mission and development plans of the institution." Please route proposal synopsis through the Office of the Vice President for Research by May 9 for review and forwarding to the chancellor.

Please make this announcement known to all faculty and professional staff in your areas of responsibility.
