The Magic of Adobe Photoshop: July 25 and 26, 8 a.m. to noon, 235 Starcher Hall, Graphic Communication Lab. Fee is $90 (eight hours total). This is an introductory, hands-on workshop where you will learn about the magic of editing images using Adobe Photoshop software. Participants are encouraged to bring their own digital images to work with. Presenter: Lynda Kenney, Department of Technology.

Five Habits of Highly Successful Investors: July 25, 10 to 11 a.m., Badlands Room, Memorial Union. The goal of this presentation is to provide the audience with a fundamental knowledge of investing that will help get them started. This program includes discussions on setting financial goals, realizing tax advantages, potentially reducing risk with diversification, understanding cost of expenses, and current market trends. Presenter: Kevin McNab, TIAA-CREF.

Defensive Driving: July 26, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 211 Skalicky Tech Incubator. This workshop is required by state fleet for all UND employees who drive state vehicles on a regular (monthly) basis, received a traffic violation, or had an accident while operating a state vehicle. Employees are encouraged to bring a family member (spouse and/or dependents). This workshop may also reduce your North Dakota insurance premiums and could possibly remove points from your driving record. Presenter: Mark Johnson.

Records Disposal Procedures: July 26, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Memorial Room, Memorial Union. Learn more about the process for destroying or transferring records that have passed their retention time limits. We’ll review the forms used, discuss why it’s necessary to document, and take part in a hands-on run-through of the entire process. It’s fun to clean out. It’s easier to do than you think and now’s the time to do it. Presenter: Chris Austin, records manager.

Safe Online Practices - Protecting Your Identity and Securing Your Computer: July 27, 9 to 11 a.m., 361 Upson II. The Internet can provide a wealth of information and give access to valuable financial, business, educational, and entertainment services. However, when connected to the Internet, you and your computer become vulnerable to scammers, identity thieves, viruses, spyware and more. This workshop will provide the information needed to help you protect your identity and computer while online. Presenter: Brad Miller, IT security officer.

Illustrator Essentials: Aug. 1 and 2, 8 a.m. to noon, 235 Starcher Hall, Graphic Communication Lab. Fee is $90. This introductory, hands-on workshop is designed for those who are not artists but want to harness illustrator’s drawing, selection, color, and effects tools to create powerful and detailed artwork. Presenter: Lynda Kenney, Department of Technology.

GroupWise 6.5: Beginning: Aug. 1, 9 a.m. to noon, 361 Upson II. Participants will navigate through the GroupWise environment, create and send messages, reply to and forward messages, use the address book, create a personal address book, create a mail group, work with calendar, schedule posted appointments and recurring events, work with junk mail folder and other mail handling features. Presenter: Heidi Strande.
