Betty Gard retirement reception set for July 11
The staff of the Chester Fritz Library invites you to a reception honoring Betty Gard in the Library’s East Asian Room from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 11. She is retiring after serving the University for three and one half decades. While at UND, she has served as documents librarian, bibliographer, reference librarian and library administrator. She has overseen the activities of the reference department, which is recognized for its commitment to quality service.
In addition to her work at UND, she has been very active in state and national professional associations. In recognition of her professional service, the North Dakota Library Association named Gard the Librarian of the Year in 2002. The American Library Association also has benefited greatly from her participation on many division and section committees, and her leadership skills have been recognized with appointments to chair positions on numerous committees. She has served as state representative to the American Library Association Council for two terms.
Those who know Betty will attest to her many talents. She has been a frequent star of dramatic and musical productions in Grand Forks Community Theater. Her credits also include roles in independent films.
Betty is moving to Seattle, Wash., where she will be closer to her children. Her new address is: 2340 Minor Ave. East, #2, Seattle, WA 98102, Betty_Gard@Yahoo.com
The University, the Chester Fritz Library, the library profession, and the Grand Forks community have greatly benefited from her contributions and she will be missed. Come wish her well as she begins her new adventures. -- Wilbur Stolt, director of libraries.
