Northwestern University scientist presents LEEPS lectures Steven D. Jacobsen, Mineralogical Society of America's Distinguished Lecturer from Northwestern University, will present the next LEEPS lectures Wednesday, Jan. 23. Jacobsen will speak at noon Wednesday, Jan. 23, on “Water Cycling in the Deep Earth: Are the Oceans Just the Tip of the Iceberg?” in 100 Leonard Hall. At 3 p.m. he will discuss “Unfamiliar Landscape in the Deep Mantle: Properties of Earth Materials at Very High Pressures and Temperatures,” in 109 Leonard Hall. The Department of Geology and Geological Engineering Leading Edge of Earth and Planetary Science lecture program (LEEPS) brings nationally and internationally known scientists and others to UND to give talks on cutting edge science and engineering. Lectures cover a wide range of topics, including academic science, applied engineering, and environmental issues of current significance.
