Darfur documentary to be shown Dec. 11

The Department of Educational Foundations and Research Critical Documentary Film Series resumes with a screening of the film "Sand and Sorrow" directed by Peabody Award winner Paul Freedman and narrated by George Clooney. According to the film's web site, "Sand and Sorrow," details the historically tragic events in Dafur that have given rise to an Arab-dominated government's willingness to kill and displace its own indigenous African people, and examines the international community's "legacy of failure" to respond to such profound crimes against humanity in the past. To date, as many as 400,000 civilians in Darfur have perished from violence, starvation and disease. Please be advised that there are graphic scenes. The film will be shown in Education 109 (the lecture bowl) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11. The public is welcome.
