The Big Read presents author Lois Lowry

The Greater Grand Forks Big Read will present An Evening with Lois Lowry at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, in the Empire Arts Center.

Lowry is the author of the picture book, “Crow Call,” the autobiographical story of a young girl who spends an autumn afternoon learning to call crows and getting reacquainted with her father after he has returned from World War II.  “Crow Call” was chosen as the Kids Big Read selection because of its gentle approach to a difficult situation and its relevance to the community.

Award-winning Lowry has written numerous books, including two winners of the Newbery Medal, “Number the Stars” and “The Giver.” Many of Lowry’s books are required reading for school-aged children and are considered modern classics. Lowry lives in Cambridge, Mass., and spends much of her time traveling the country discussing her books and the art of writing.
