GRAND FORKS 05/20/2009 — The University of North Dakota’s Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) team has returned from a successful trip to the Michigan FSAE competition. With finishes of 6th in acceleration, and 12th in design, they were able to take 39th place overall.
The competition took place at the Michigan International Speedway, where 120 teams from around the world competed in a series of static and dynamic events, including technical inspection, cost, presentation, engineering design, solo performance trials and high performance track endurance. Students had to conceive, design, fabricate, and compete with small scale, formula-style racing car. UND’s placement ranks as the best finish ever for a North Dakota team in the competition.
The UND FSAE team would like to thank all of their sponsors, including: Rydell, Cirrus, American Defense Industries, Mikes Custom Truck, 3M, Arctic Cat, Firecharger, Honeywell, Basin Electric, Malco, Brainerd International Raceway, and from the University Of North Dakota, School of Engineering and Mines, Mechanical Engineering, Provost office, Office of the President, and the ND Space Consortium.
