Teachers as Learners

Teachers as learners addresses our goal of developing teachers who are committed to the continuing process of learning about many things, and especially about learning to teach.

This theme supports our work of preparing teachers who see learning as a lifelong process and understand that knowledge is constructed when meaningful connections are made through and among their experiences. This conception of this them is established in the general education and speciality areas of our programs and continued as an emphasis throughout the professional coursework by studying how one can learn to teach. Knowledge of the content we teach, the way learner we will teach and the ways in which we teach are all dimensions of the theme. "Teacher as learner" aligns with all of the INTASC* principles, especially 1-8.
