Sports Reporter

JOB DESCRIPTION
The reporter produces video segments for our live television show.  The reporter generates story ideas, gathers information, conducts interviews, writes scripts, edits video, and uses creative storytelling techniques. Reporters are required to attend two weekly meetings with the news team. We encourage that reporters keep up with local and national sports.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Works with the news team to generate ideas, develop story angles and set up shoots for video.
2. Arranges and conducts interviews, writes stories and edits video.
3. Attends two weekly team meetings. (Mondays 8:00 - 9:00 a.m., Thursdays 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.)
4. Works to keep up with local and national sports.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to remain positive during challenging situations.
2. Ability to work in a team situation.
3. Strong communication and organizational skills.

PREFERENCES
The following skills and related job experience are preferred in candidates, but are not required:
1. Some experience as a print, television or radio reporter.
2. Coursework that relates to this job description.
3. Experience in a leadership role.
4. Ability to project a professional presence on television.
5. Ability to shoot and edit video.
6. Strong interest in sports.


In addition, candidates must be available for approximately 12 hours a week. This includes two regularly scheduled weekly meetings:

Mondays 8:00 - 9:00 A.M.
Thursdays 6:30 - 7:30 P.M.

The amount of hours per week is subject to change depending on circumstances. The sports reporter position is a one semester non-paid position. Must have a valid driver’s license, ability to climb a ladder and lift 50 lbs.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The sports reporter is required to follow the guidelines established by the executive directors for on-camera presentation. The reporter will not alter their appearance without first seeking approval from their team leader. Team leaders will not approve the following: visibly pierced facial parts with body rings; drastic changes in hair color; drastic changes in hair length, including hair extensions; and/or facial tattoos. Reporters will be expected to read copy and accurately pronounce words at a style and rate consistent with national broadcast standards. In addition, reporters cannot publicly endorse products, services or political campaigns.

Sports Anchor

JOB DESCRIPTION
The sports anchor serves as a member of the news team as a sports reporter. For the live show, the anchor gives the sportscast. They also work on the Headline sports team to select national sports highlights, write scripts under deadline, and edit copy. The sports anchor is usually filled by someone with previous experience in Studio One.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Works as a sports reporter (see sports reporter job description).
2. Writes and edits copy as part of the Headline Sports Team for the live show.
3. Anchors the sports segments and works with other cast members during ad-lib segments of the show.
4. Works with the news director to improve show elements.
5. Participates in weekly feedback sessions.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Some experience as a print, television or radio reporter.
2. Strong communication and organizational skills.
3. Ability to project a professional presence on television.
4. Ability to shoot and edit video.
5. Strong interest in sports.

PREFERENCES
The following skills and related job experience are preferred in candidates, but are not required:
1. At least one semester of experience with the Studio One news team.
2. Experience in a leadership role.
3. Coursework that relates to this job description.
4. Ability to commit two semesters to position.

In addition, candidates must be available for approximately 12 hours a week, including the following times:

Thursdays 1:00 - 7:30 P.M.
