Feature Reporter

JOB DESCRIPTION
Feature reporters are responsible for producing stories for our live television show. They think of story ideas, interview various people relating to the story topic, write scripts and edit video.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Works with the programming team to generate ideas, develop story angles and set up shoots for video.
2. Arranges and conducts interviews, writes stories and edits video.
3. Attends two weekly team meetings. (Mondays 4:00 - 5:00 p.m., Fridays 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.)

REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to remain positive during challenging situations.
2. Ability to work in a team situation.
3. Strong communication and organizational skills.

PREFERENCES
The following skills and related job experience are preferred in candidates, but are not required:
1. Some experience as a print, television or radio reporter.
2. Successful completion of courses that relate to this job description.
3. Experience in a leadership role.
4. Ability to write, shoot and edit video.

In addition, candidates must be available for approximately 12 hours a week. This includes two regularly scheduled weekly meetings:

Mondays 4:00 - 5:00 P.M.
Fridays 8:00 - 9:00 A.M.

The amount of hours per week is subject to change depending on circumstances. The reporter position is a one semester non-paid position.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The reporter is required to follow the guidelines established by the executive directors for on-camera presentation. The reporter will not alter their appearance without first seeking approval from their team leader. Team leaders will not approve the following: visibly pierced facial parts with body rings; drastic changes in hair color; drastic changes in hair length, including hair extensions; and/or facial tattoos. Reporters will be expected to read copy and accurately pronounce words at a style and rate consistent with national broadcast standards. In addition, reporters cannot publicly endorse products, services or political campaigns.

Photographer/Videographer

JOB DESCRIPTION
The photographer shoots and edits video segments for our live television show. The photographer generates story ideas, works closely with reporters, shoots all the video elements for a story, edits video and uses creative storytelling techniques.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Works with the news team to generate ideas and develop story angles.
2. Works with reporters to schedule equipment, shoot and edit stories.
3. Edits video segments that are associated with the live show.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to remain positive during challenging situations.
2. Ability to work in a team situation.
3. Strong communication and organizational skills.

PREFERENCES
The following skills and related job experience are preferred in candidates, but are not required:
1. Some experience as a photographer or video editor.
2. Coursework that relates to this job description.

In addition, candidates must be available for approximately 8 hours a week. This includes two regularly scheduled weekly meetings (days and times depend on team):

Meeting Times
Mondays 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.
Thursdays 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

OR

Mondays 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Fridays 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.

Associate Producer

JOB DESCRIPTION
The associate producer produces the guest segments for the live television show. They work with the executive director to generate guest ideas, research various topics, pre-interview potential guests, write guest memos, and produce the live guest segments. They also assist the producer with timing of the show.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Acquires guests, conducts pre-interviews and develops interview segment of the show.
2. Conducts research for various program segments and writes scripts.
3. Assists the producer with program timing and segment changes.
4. Writes material used by the marketing staff to promote the show.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Some experience related to the responsibilities outlined above.
2. Prefer experience writing for broadcasting or print.
3. Strong communication and organizational skills.

In addition, candidates must be available for approximately 9 hours a week. This includes two regularly scheduled weekly meetings:

Mondays: 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Wednesdays: 4:00 - 4:30pm
Thursdays: 2:30 - 6:30 pm
Fridays: 8:00 - 9:00 am

The amount of hours per week is subject to change depending on circumstances. The associate producer position is a one semester non-paid position.

Producer

JOB DESCRIPTION
The producer provides leadership to the programming team. They work with the executive director to make decisions about stories, studio guests and programming content. They also direct weekly programming meetings, help establish team goals, and act as a feature reporter, co-anchor, or associate producer. The producer serves on the Studio One Executive Council and Board of Directors.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Works with the executive director to run weekly staff meetings. This includes generating story ideas, giving assignments, determining story line-up and scheduling.
2. Works as a feature reporter or Co-Anchor.
3. Participates in weekly feedback sessions.

REQUIREMENTS
1. At least one semester of experience with Studio One.
2. Some experience as a print, television or radio reporter.
3. Strong communication and organizational skills.
4. Experience in a leadership role.
5. Ability to shoot and edit video.
6. Ability to resolve conflict in a positive manner.
7. Ability to work individually and as a member of a team, when required.

In addition, candidates must be available for approximately 18 hours a week (total hours with feature reporter or co-anchor duties), including the following times:

Mondays 4:00 - 5:00 P.M.
Wednesdays 4:00 - 4:30 P.M.
Thursdays 2:30 - 6:30 P.M.
Fridays 8:00 - 10:05 A.M.

The amount of hours per week is subject to change depending on circumstances. The producer is a one semester non-paid position. Applicants who are available for two semesters are preferred, but consideration will be given to qualified candidates that are only available for one semester.

Co-Anchor

JOB DESCRIPTION
The co-anchor produces live guest segments, as well as help anchor the show. They serve as a cast member and assistant to the anchor. They research various topics, pre-interview potential guests, develop interview questions and produce guest segments. During the live show they anchor the feature segments and conduct live interviews.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists the producer in acquiring studio guests.
2. Works with the executive director to provide research material for program segments.
3. Pre-interviews potential guests.
4. Develops interview questions and gathers information to produce a guest interview.
5. Works with guests to provide information about graphics, props or video that may be part of the interview segment.
6. Writes and edits scripts.
7. Briefs guests before they appear on the live telecast.
8. Anchors segments as assigned by the executive director.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to project a professional presence on television.
2. Ability to remain positive during challenging situations.

4. Strong communication and organizational skills.
