BeckerBISMARCK’S OWN INTERNS AT AWARD-WINNING NEWS SHOW
Courtney Becker markets Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Bismarck, N.D. native Courtney Becker, works hard on the marketing team for the University of North Dakota’s live news show, Studio One. This is her first semester with the program. Some of her responsibilities include writing for Studio One’s monthly electronic newsletter and working with guests on show days. She also helps the marketing team recruit new interns for future semesters and aids in developing an audience for each weekly show. “The experience will help me market my skills [to future employers] because I can say I have [hands-on] experience in marketing and public relations,” says Becker.

Becker is the daughter of Jackie and Joe Becker Jr. of Bismarck, N.D. and a 2006 Bismarck High School graduate. She is a Communications major and Sociology minor at UND. After graduation, Becker plans to pursue a career in public relations or marketing, with future goals of becoming a publicist.

ErinBRAINARD NATIVE IS WORKING UP A STORM AT STUDIO ONE
Erin Bertschi is the weather anchor for award-winning news program

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Brainard Minn. native Erin Bertschi, is the weather anchor for the award winning television show Studio One, producedat the University of North Dakota.  This is Bertschi’s fourth semester with Studio One. She has had a variety of other positions while on the weather team. She has been a weather reporter, producer and weather anchor. Bertschi also received the Studio One Recognition of Excellence award for her outstanding work and dedication to the program.

Along with her internship at Studio One, Bertschi keeps busy as the treasurer for the American Meteorological Society and anchoring for the UND Weather Update. She is also a teaching assistant in meteorology and ballroom dancing.

Bertschi plans to graduate in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric Sciences. She will pursue a career in broadcast meteorology after graduation. Bertschi says Studio One has not only helped her with the technical skills of broadcast meteorology but with people skills as well.  She has learned how to work with people with all different attitudes and personalities.

ComptonGRAND FORKS NATIVE MARKETS AWARD-WINNING TELEVISION SHOW
Adam Compton brings creative marketing skills to Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Grand Forks, N.D. native Adam Compton, is interning on the marketing team for University of North Dakota’s live television show, Studio One. This is his first semester with the program. Compton’s specific responsibilities include bringing in an audience for each live show and working with guests on show days.

“The [Studio One staff] have taught me how to work in a professional environment. They have also provided me with real-world experience in marketing, graphic design and news release writing,” says Compton.
Compton is the son of Jeff and Anne Compton of Grand Forks, N.D. and a 2005 graduate of Red River High School. He is currently a senior in marketing at UND. After graduation, Compton plans to work in the marketing field.

Curran\CROOKSTON NATIVE EXCELS AT COLLEGIATE INTERNSHIP
Jeremy Curran brings reporting skills to award-winning news show, Studio One.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Jeremy Curran, is a news reporter for the award-winning news show, Studio One. He has been with Studio One for six semesters and as one of the veteran interns, he is able to share his experiences with new interns. As a news reporter, Curran produces news segments for the live show by conducting interviews, writing stories and scheduling video shoots. “I’ve learned all I know about being a reporter here and how to be a professional,” explains Curran. In his past semesters, he has held a variety of jobs with the project including: feature reporter, sports reporter, camera operator, technical director, audio operator and a sports anchor. He has twice received Studio One’s Recognition of Excellence award, for his quality work and dedication to the project. He also received several awards for stories produced over the 2008/2009 academic year. He received honorable mention for feature reporting in the North Dakota Professional Communicators competition and third place for sports photography in the Society of Professional Journalists contest.

Curran is the son of Jim and Beth Curran from Crookston, Minn. and a 2005 graduate of Crookston High School. He is a senior at UND majoring in Communication and plans to graduate this December. After graduation, Curran will pursue a job as a sports reporter and plans to move to a position in a larger television market, like ESPN.back to top

 

CusackEAGAN NATIVE IS A PHOTOGRAPHER FOR AWARD-WINNING NEWS SHOW Carter Cusack brings visual communication talents to Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Eagan, Minn. native Carter Cusack, works as a photographer for the University of North Dakota’s live news show, Studio One. This is his first semester as an intern with Studio One. As a photographer, Cusack goes on shoots with reporters and captures video footage for weekly news stories. On show days, he operates a camera in Studio One’s state-of-the-art television studio. “I have learned valuable communication, time management and organizational skills that will help me in any work environment in the future,” says Cusack.

Cusack is the son of Cary and Eydie Cusack of Eagan, Minn. and a 2007 high school graduate from the School of Environmental Studies. He is working towards a double major in photography and German at UND. He aspires to do news photography or film work after graduation.

EnubazorQUEENS, N.Y. NATIVE MARKETS AWARD-WINNING TELEVISION SHOW
Enubuzor brings creativity and marketing strategies to Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Queens, N.Y. native, Ekeze Enubuzor, is a marketing intern for Studio One, an award-winning television show produced by the University of North Dakota. Throughout the semester, he has worked to market the program and internship. He also writes e-newsletters. “The skills acquired at Studio One are the skills employers are looking for,” Enubuzor explains, “there is also a huge opportunity to learn new skills in a real work setting.”

Enubuzor is pursuing a degree in Graphic Design and Marketing at UND. Along with Studio One, he is also involved on campus. Enubuzor is the Vice President of Marketing and Events for Students in Free Enterprise. He is also the marketing and events coordinator for UND’s Career Services. After graduation, Enubuzor plans to pursue a career in advertising.

EricksonPELICAN RAPIDS NATIVE SHINES AT AWARD-WINNING TELEVISION SHOW

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Lacey Erickson is interning as a feature reporter, co-anchor and producer for the award-winning news show, Studio One. She is now in her fourth semester with the program and has held a variety of positions including: news reporter, stage manager, producer and co-anchor. As a co-anchor, Erickson conducts and coordinates guest interviews on the show, she also co-hosts the show. Her duties as a producer require her to help make decisions about stories and arrange guests that appear on the show. Erickson says that the best part about working at Studio One is all the people you meet and the hands-on learning experience. “I want to get into broadcast journalism and everything we do here is exactly what I want to do when I graduate,” explains Erickson. She has received a number of honors and awards including Studio One’s Recognition of Excellence award for her outstanding work and achievements. She has also received the UND Student Achievement Award and the VP Scholarship Award for her excellent leadership. Along with internships and academics, Erickson competes in pageants and is a Special Olympics advocate.

Erickson will graduate in May 2010 with a degree in Communication. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in the television industry. Erickson is the daughter of Greg and Vicki Erickson of Pelican Rapids, N.D. and is a 2006 graduate of Pelican Rapids High School. back to top
GengelHORACE NATIVE INTERNS AT AWARD-WINNING TELEVISION SHOW
Glendon Gengel brings graphics and Web design skills to Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Horace, ND. native Glen Gengel, is an marketing team member and the Web designer for Studio One, an award-winning television show produced by the University of North Dakota. This is Glen’s second semester interning with the program. Glen designs promotional materials for the marketing team. He also updatesStudio One's Web site with new news and feature stories. Glen says that working at Studio One has provided him with a large amount of technical knowledge, in graphics and Web design. He says fellow interns at Studio One have been incredibly helpful with challenging him to develop his graphic designing skills.

Studio One has recently recognized Glen for his excellence in professionalism, hard work, and dedication. As well as being a creative contributor to the program, Glen has been published in graphic design magazines, such as Advanced Photoshop and Photoshop Creative. Gengel is a sophomore, pursuing a Marketing degree at UND. After graduation, he plans to work in the graphics design field, preferably designing promotional materials for emerging rock bands.

GonzalezSAN ANTONIO NATIVE SHINES AS A PHOTOGRAPHER AT AWARD-WINNING TELEVISION SHOW
Justin Gonzalez brings composition and creativity to Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Justin Gonzalez is an intern at the award-winning news show, Studio One, which is produced at the University of North Dakota. He is currently in his third semester and has worked as a photographer and an audio operator. As a photographer, he works with reporters to shoot video content for segments on the live show. During his time at Studio One, Gonzalez has received the Recognition of Excellence for his quality work and dedication to the program. “What I have enjoyed most about Studio One are all of the experiences that I have been through,” he explains.

Along with Studio One, Gonzalez is involved in a number of activities on campus including; Resnet, and Experimental Aircraft Association Webmaster. He is a senior at UND and is scheduled to graduate in August of 2010 with a degree in Commercial Aviation. Gonzalez is the son of Teresa and Daniel Gonzalez from San Antonio, Texas, and is a graduate of Roosevelt High School. He plans to pursue a career as a commercial pilot or videographer after graduation.

JoeJOE HANSEL PRODUCES WEATHER SEGMENTS FOR AWARD-WINNING NEWS PROGRAM

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Chaska, Minn. native Joe Hansel, is interning as the weather producer for Studio One, and award-winning news show produced at the University of North Dakota. As the weather producer, Hansel leads interns on the weather team. He also writes scripts, shoots video and develops graphics for the live show. “[I plan] to become a broadcast meteorologist for a TV network and eventually become a chief meteorologist,” Hansel explains. He says Studio One will help him in the future because of, “the professional experience and up-to-date equipment [interns] have the opportunity to use.” Hansel has been with Studio One, for 5 semesters. He has held positions on the programming team and weather team. “[I enjoy] having the honor of being a part of something that has made an impact on people for over twenty years,” Hansel adds.

Special awards and recognition gained by Hansel include the Studio One Recognition of Excellence award and a Catholic Aid Scholarship. Hansel also stays busy as a teaching assistant for Meteorology 110.

Joe Hansel is the son of Jim and Lois Hansel and a 2006 Chaska High School graduate. He is a senior at UND and will graduate in Spring 2010. back to top


KaylaMOORHEAD NATIVE INTERNS AS A NEWS REPORTER FOR AWARD-WINNING TELEVISION SHOW

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Moorhead, Minn. native Kayla Hoots, is a news reporter at the University of North Dakota’s live television show, Studio One. She has been with the program for three semesters and has held a variety of positions including marketing team member, feature reporter and camera operator. As a news reporter, Hoots conducts interviews, writes scripts and shoots and edits video for the weekly show.  “I love that we get to use such great equipment and do real stories,” explains Hoots.

Hoots is the daughter of Gary and Norean Hoots of Moorhead, Minn. and is a graduate of Moorhead High School. She received the Studio One Recognition of Excellence award for her hard work and dedication to the program. She also has won several awards in regional competitions for her work at Studio One. She took second place for news releases and third place for feature reporting in the 2009 North Dakota Professional Communicators Contest. She is currently a senior at UND, pursuing a degree in Communications.  After graduation, she plans work in broadcast or print media in the Fargo area.

HughesEDEN PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA NATIVE INTERNS AT AWARD-WINNING TELEVISION SHOW
Kelsie Hughes markets Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Eden Prairie, Minn. native Kelsie Hughes, is a marketing intern at Studio One, an award-winning television show produced by the University of North Dakota. This is Hughes’ first semester working with the Studio One marketing team. Hughes’ responsibilities include writing newsletters each week and assisting with production during the live show. “[Studio Oneprovides] hands-on learning and real-life experience,” says Hughes.

Along with Hughes’ contributions to Studio One, she is also involved with her alma matter and excels academically. She is a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and the Adelphi Literary Society. She is a Presidential Scholar, reserved for some of the nation’s top students, and has been on the UND Dean’s List.

After graduation, Hughes plans to pursue a career in public relations and says her experience at Studio One will help her in the future. “Studio One has made me more confident in writing press releases and has given me professional experience,” she explains.

JuhlDRAYTON NATIVE EXCELS AS GRAPHICS DIRECTOR FOR AWARD-WINNING NEWS PROGRAM
Megan Juhl designs graphics for live television show

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Drayton, N.D. native Megan Juhl, is the graphics director for the University of North Dakota’s live television show, Studio One. This is her third semester at Studio One.  She helps her team develop television graphics each week.  “I have enjoyed getting such a great real-life work experience while still being in college and being able to [work] with such great people,” says Juhl.

Juhl is the daughter of Ted and Angela Juhl of Drayton, N.D.   She is currently a junior at UND majoring in Graphic Design Technology. Along with her internships at Studio One, Juhl is also involved with the Campus Crusade for Christ and does freelance photography work.  After graduation, she plans to pursue a job in graphic design and photography.

Jason Kayati interns as a feature reporter and assistant director at Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Chanhassen, Minn. native, Jason Kayati, is a feature reporter and the assistant director at the University of North Dakota’s live television show, Studio One. This is his third semester at Studio One. He has held the technical director, floor manager and a news reporter position in past semesters. He has also received Studio One’s Recognition of Excellence award for his hard work and dedication to the program. As a reporter, Kayati researches story leads, conducts interviews and edits video. Kayati says he enjoys, “meeting new and interesting people [while] on shoots.”

Kayati is the son of Andrew and Barbara Kayati of Chanhassen, Minn. and a 2006 graduate of Chaska High School. He is currently a senior in Communications at UND and he plans to pursue a career in broadcasting after graduation.

Derek BOWMAN NATIVE INTERNS AT AWARD-WINNING NEWS SHOW
Derek Korczak interns as an audio operator and photographer at Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Bowman, N.D. native Derek Korczak, is the audio operator and a photographer for the University of North Dakota’s live television show, Studio One. This is his third semester with the program. He has held camera operator and photographer positions in the past two semesters. He also received Studio One’s Recognition of Excellence award for his hard work and dedication to the program.

Korczak says that he enjoys show day the most at Studio One. “Everything that everyone has been working so hard on comes to life in a one hour show… [It’s] amazing,” he explains.
Korczak is the son of Darryl and Melanie Korczak of Bowman, N.D. and a 2008 Bowman County High School graduate. He is currently a sophomore at UND, majoring in Information Systems. After graduation he plans to pursue a career with KFYR in Bismarck, N.D.

MarkOAKDALE NATIVE INTERNS AS A SPORTS REPORTER AT AWARD-WINNING NEWS SHOW
Mark Kubat brings writing and editing skills to Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Oakdale, Minn. native Mark Kubat, is a sports reporter for the University of North Dakota’s live television show, Studio One. This is his second semester at Studio One. Last semester he held a news reporter position. As a sports reporter, Kubat writes scripts, conducts interviews and shoots and edits video for the weekly show. Along with Kubat’s position atStudio One, he also participates in ROTC, Burtness Theatre productions and is a Resident Assistant at UND. Kubat’s says his career objective is to, “Try my hand in acting in Hollywood. If that doesn’t work out, [doing] behind the scenes work or going back to school to teach theatre.”

Kubat is the son of Tony and Dawn Kubat of Oakdale, Minn. and a 2008 graduate of North High School. He is currently a sophomore at the University of North Dakota with a Theatre Arts major.

Lampert brings entrepreneurial ideas to the Studio One marketing team

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Fargo, N.D. native, Allison Lampert, is interning at the University of North Dakota’s award-winning television show Studio One. Lampert has held a variety of roles in her two semesters at Studio One. This semester she is a press release writer and tour guide. She has also helped with audience development and greeting guests in previous semesters. “I enjoy meeting new people, also the staff atStudio One is willing to help with anything,” says Lampert. “I’m doing exactly what I want to do when I graduate. I am receiving experience in areas like press release writing as well as creating and carrying out a marketing plan,” she explains.

She brings a variety of experience to her Studio One internship. She has been a marketing intern at Protech Associations and Dakota Crop Services. Her hard work, creative contributions and dedication to Studio One has paid off. She recently received Studio One’s Recognition of Excellence Award.

Lampert is pursuing a degree in Communications and a certificate in Entrepreneurship at UND. After graduation, she plans to pursue a marketing career for an agricultural company.

WHITE BEAR LAKE NATIVE REPORTS FOR STUDIO ONE
Cassy LeMay brings creative writing and reporting skills to award-winning news show

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — White Bear Lake, Minn. native, Cassy LeMay, is interning at Studio One, an award winning television show, produced at the University of North Dakota.  In the past two semesters, LeMay has been a floor manager, production assistant and sports reporter. This semester she is working as a feature reporter and teleprompter operator. “The experience and people are what make Studio One so enjoyable, everyone involved is great,” she says.

LeMay received Studio One’s Recognition of Excellence Award for her hard work and dedication to the program.  She brings communication skills, dedication and enthusiasm to Studio One.  LeMay has also achieved the UND Rising Scholar scholarship and a GMAC scholarship from General Motors. 

 After graduation, LeMay plans to pursue a career as a sideline reporter or media relations specialist for a major sports network.  LeMay says her internship at Studio One will help in her career endeavors. “I know how to be professional in any situation.  The time management I learned at Studio One will help me in withback to top every aspect of my life,” she adds.

StephanieTHIEF RIVER FALLS NATIVE REPORTS FOR STUDIO ONE
Stephanie Liden interns with award-winning news program

GRAND FORKS, N.D. Thief River Falls, Minn. native, Stephanie Liden is interning as a feature reporter at the University of North Dakota’s award winning television show Studio One.  “The things I enjoy most about the program are the collaborative learning process, also working hard to develop a story and seeing the finished product on television,” explains Liden.  As a reporter, Liden develops stories ideas, conducts interviews and edits video.

Liden brings creative writing skills to her current reporting position.  She has journalism experience from her job at UND’s Dakota Student.  She has worked as a Columnist and the Opinions Editor for UND’s paper.  She has also received UND’s MM Opegard Scholarship and has been placed on the President’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List.

Liden is a senior in Communications at UND.  After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in print or broadcast journalism.  She says her career will benefit from her internship at Studio One, “I [now am able] to better visualize end products before they are complete,” she explains.

KayleeLARIMORE NATIVE REPORTS FOR AWARD-WINNING NEWS SHOW
Kaylee Nesdahl brings creative writing skills to Studio One.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Larimore, N.D. native, Kaylee Nesdahl, is interning at the award-winning television show Studio One, produced at the University of North Dakota. This is her third semester with the program. This semesterNesdahl is a feature reporter. In her previous semesters, she has held positions as the associate producer, floor manager and teleprompter operator. Nesdahl says there are many benefits from interning at Studio One, “meeting and working with people, not only in the program but also in the community, has been beneficial.”

Nesdahl brings an abundance of skills to Studio One. She is an exceptional writer and develops creative stories. She also excels academically. She is a Presidential Scholar and on the Dean’s list and Presidential Honor roll. Nesdahl has received the Studio One Recognition of Excellence Award for her hard work and dedication to the program.

Nesdahl is pursuing a degree in Communications and English at UND. After graduation, she plans to work in the media field of writing or producing. “I have learned the professional standards expected in the workplace and how toback to top use my creative powers to produce a quality product,” adds Nesdahl.

RadcliffeFARGO, N.D. NATIVE MARKETS AWARD-WINNING TELEVISION SHOW

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Fargo, N.D. native, Brynn Radcliffe, is a marketing team intern at Studio One, an award-winning television show produced by the University of North Dakota. Throughout the semester, she has helped develop a marketing plan, write press releases, and she has also worked on the audience development team. “Studio One has been a very hands-on experience, and has made me much more professional,” she says.

Radcliffe was involved with DECA in High School and has started a DECA chapter at UND. She says her experience at Studio One has, “helped me have an idea of what to do to promote an organization or company.”

After graduation, Radcliffe plans to work in the marketing field, either in advertising or selling, and possibly management. Radcliffe says that Studio One has helped her be more prepared for her future. “The more experience I have in my field, the better advantage I have at getting a job,” she says.

RojasPUYALLUP WASH. NATIVE INTERNS AT STUDIO ONE

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Puyallup, Wash. native Franklyn Rojas, is a photographer for Studio One, an award-winning television show produced by the University of North Dakota. Throughout the semester, he has worked as a camera operator and a photographer. “Show days are my favorite part [about Studio One,] because everyone is professional, yet still has a sense of humor,” he explains. Rojas has received the Studio One Recognition of Excellence award for his work as a photographer on the project.

After graduation, Rojas plans to pursue a career in product photography and flight instruction. Rojas says his internship at Studio One will help in his career endeavors, “[I’ve learned] leadership, taking a sense of pride in my work, humility, team dynamics, productivity, and also better networking skills,” Rojas adds.

SandbakkenBISMARCK N.D. NATIVE PRODUCES STUDIO ONE

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Bismarck, N.D. native, Alaina Sandbakken, is interning as the Associate Producer at Studio One, an award-winning television show produced by the University of North Dakota. This is her second semester with the program. In her previous semester, she held a position on the Marketing Team. She says she most enjoys “the connections I have made with the people involved in Studio One,” she says. Sandbakken received the Studio OneRecognition of Excellence award this season for her hard work and dedication to the program.

Along with Studio One, Sandbakken is also a member of the UND Math Club and works in the Math Department at UND. After graduation, Sandbakken plans to pursue a masters in Mathematics and eventually have a career as a math professor. Sandbakken says her internship will help in her career endeavors because, “Studio One has taught me that not everything will go as planned, but it will always work out.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Grand Forks, N.D. native, Jordan Simon, is the director and a photographer at Studio One, an award-winning television show produced by the University of North Dakota. As a photographer, Simon works with reporters to capture video for stories. On show days, he directs the live show. He has held a variety of positions on the project. In past semesters, he has been a camera operator, associate director, and a photographer. Simon says he has enjoyed his experience at Studio One because of the people. “[Studio One] has taught me communication skills that will be valuable in the workplace,” he explains. Simon is a Communication major and Sociology minor at the University of North Dakota.
SmithPEQUOT LAKES, MINNESOTA NATIVE DESIGNS GRAPHICS FOR AWARD-WINNING TELEVISION SHOW
Savanna Smith brings composition and creativity to Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Savanna Smith is a graphic designer for the award-winning television show, Studio One, produced at the University of North Dakota. She is also the CG Operator during the live show. As a graphics designer, she develops visuals to accompany reporters’ stories. During the live show, Smith switches graphics in the control room. Smith says she has enjoyed learning another area of graphic design while interning at Studio One. “Learning more about the production side of television has given me an introduction to fast paced problem solving and working together as a team,” she says. Along with being involved with a Studio One internship, Smith also works as the advertisement setter and designer for UND’s newspaper, The Dakota Student.

Smith, the daughter of Lisa Feibiger and Brad Arnold, is from Pequot Lakes, Minn and is a 2004 Brainerd High School graduate. She is a senior at the University of North Dakota and is scheduled to graduate this December with a major in graphic design and new art media. Smith plans to have her own photography and design studio some day. She would also like to use the skills she has obtained in graphic design to create advertisements to market different products.

StenderDELANO, MINNESOTA NATIVE MARKETS AWARD-WINNING TELEVISION SHOW

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Bethany Stender is on the marketing team for the award-winning television show, Studio One, produced at the University of North Dakota. As a marketing team member, Stender provides public relations on show days and is the team photographer. She is also a member of the audience development team and helps generate an audience for each live show. “What I have enjoyed the most about Studio One is taking what I have learned in the classroom and applying it to something practical. I also enjoy learning new things and love all the people I have met! Studio One has taught me professionalism and how to be a perfectionist in all the work that I do. I have also tapped into my creative side and these skills will definitely be useful when I enter the work force,” explains Stender.

Along with being involved with Studio One, Stender is also a member of the UND dance team. Stender also excels academically. Last year, she maintained a 4.0 grade point average and received a scholarship when she transferred to UND.
Stender, the daughter of Randy and LuAnn Stender, grew up in Delano, Minn. and graduated in 2006 from Delano High School. She is pursuing a Communication major and a Dance minor at UND and plans to graduate in May of 2011. After graduation, she would love work in marketing or public relations for a sports team.back to top

Eric Swanson brings sports reporting and anchoring skills to Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Eric Swanson is the sports anchor and a sports reporter for the award-winning television show, Studio One, produced at the University of North Dakota. He has held a variety of positions in his past two semesters with the program including: sports reporter, audio operator and technical director. As an anchor this semester, Swanson puts together sports highlights before the live show and reads sports segments on camera. During the week, he conducts interviews, shoots footage, writes scripts and edits video. He has received the Studio One Recognition of Excellence award for his hard work and dedication to the program. Swanson says he enjoys Studio One because of the fun people he gets to work with and also the opportunity to use state-of-the-art equipment. When asking Swanson what he has learned at Studio One that could help him in the future he responded with, “the ability to learn new technical skills quickly and communicate with people effectively.” Along with his experience at Studio One, he has also interned as a video producer with the National Sports Center during the summer of 2009.

Swanson is the son of Sandy Swanson-Walters and grew up in Minneapolis, Minn. He is a senior at UND and plans to graduate in May of 2010 with a major in Communication. Swanson was on the Dean’s list at the end of the fall semester in 2008. After graduation, Swanson plans to work in the television industry or anywhere that he could use his creativity to excel. back to top

Unrau brings anchoring, reporting and producing skills to Studio One

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Amy Unrau is a co-anchor and reporter for Studio One, an award-winning television show produced at the University of North Dakota. This is Unrau’s third semester with the program. In her past semesters she has held a variety of positions including: news reporter, feature reporter and stage manager. Unrau says her experience at Studio One will help her in the future, “Studio One will and already has given me more opportunities than many of my peers. The experience is the best possible thing that I could have done for my future. The things that I learn at Studio One are exactly what I want to do when I’m done with college.” She has also received the Studio One Recognition of Excellence award for her hard work and dedication to the program.

Unrau, daughter of John and Darcie Unrau, grew up in Hallock, Minn and is a 2007 Kittson Central High School graduate. Unrau is a junior in the Communication program at UND and plans to graduate in May of 2011. After graduation, she aspires to become an anchor at a news station. She would also be interested in network programming at E!, Travel Channel or the Discovery Channel and says her internship experience will be used in the future, “if it weren’t for Studio One, I would not be as close to my career goals as I am today,” she explains.
